BNC Connectors at Jaycar
BNC connectors are a miniature, affordable solution, making radio frequency connections simple. Professional technicians and hobbyists alike regularly rely on their excellent versatility and reliability in professional video and radio-frequency applications found in our everyday consumer electronics.
Whether you need to set up a video surveillance system in your home or connect audiovisual equipment in a boardroom, we are confident you will find the right BNC connectors to suit your requirements at Jaycar. Explore our selection today to discover high-quality connectors that create stable and secure connections every time.
What is a BNC Connector used for?
Modern manufacturers design BNC (Bayonet Neill-Concelman) connectors specifically for handling connections within coaxial cables up to around 2 GHz and up to 500 volts, making them ideal for video and radio frequency applications, including professional video equipment, radio systems, and electronic test instruments.
Their twist-to-lock design and unique bayonet-style coupling mechanism ensure a secure and stable connection to maintain signal integrity. As a result, the reliable quick connect/disconnect solution remains a standard in many industries and the most demanding environments.
Is BNC the same as COAX?
BNC connectors are built to work with coaxial cables, meaning they certainly aren’t the same thing. Coaxial cables are transmission lines carrying high-frequency signals, consisting of an inner conductor, an insulating layer, and an outer shield. BNC connectors are attached to their cables to aid in the desired transmission, maintaining the coaxial cable's signal integrity, slashing interference, and reducing signal loss.
What is the difference between 50 and 75 BNC Connectors?
Trying to decide which BNC connector is the best fit for your application?
As you review our options available at Jaycar, know that the primary difference between 50-ohm and 75-ohm BNC connectors lies in their impedance (a specific measure of their opposition to electrical flow):
- 50-ohm BNC connectors: Typically used in data and RF applications, such as radio communications and network infrastructure, with frequencies up to 4 GHz.
- 75-ohm BNC connectors: More common in video applications, such as broadcast television and surveillance systems, and can handle frequencies up to 2 GHz.
Choosing the correct impedance will allow for optimal performance and minimal signal loss in your system.
Are BNC connectors still used?
While newer connector types are available, BNC connectors are still the first choice for countless applications. Their durability, reliability, and ease of use make them popular for professional video production, RF applications, laboratory testing, and more.
At Jaycar, we continue to stock a broad selection of BNC connectors to meet our customers' evolving needs. To explore our wider range, review our PAL and coaxial connectors, coaxial cables, and other audio-video connectors to complement your BNC connectors.
